School Has (re)Begun

This is my 5th year to send kiddos off to school. It's Mark's first. It was fun to watch the first-timer.

None of the boys had much interest in buying any new clothes for school this year. They had plenty of school-worthy clothes, so why waste time with Mom at the store? *sigh* I should be happy, right? This saves money. This will last only a short while, I'm sure. There is undoubtedly a growth spurt right around the corner.

The school supply list grows longer every year. And more specific, too. (Logan's list even had specific folder colors - jeepers!) We did things the smart way this year and did the school supply shopping when the boys were elsewhere. That made things MUCH easier! And they didn't complain one bit about the choices we made as far as color, size, etc. I MUST remember this for next year!!!

Logan and Orin's first day was fairly uneventful. A normal first day of school. They were excited to get back to their friends, but it was really no big deal to them.

Matthew, on the other hand... (I'm still chuckling.) He was SOOOOOOOO excited. The Kindergarten class does a staggered start, so not everyone goes each day for the first week. Logan and Orin started on Monday, but Matthew's first day wasn't until Wednesday. Each morning after the boys started, Matthew was counting down the days until he started. (And each afternoon, and each evening...)

When the big day arrived, he was up and dressed and ready before everyone else. The boys don't walk out the door until 8:30. Matthew was standing at the front door with backpack and shoes on itching to go at 8:00. No kidding!

Matthew's first day was a success! He loves school! He's a big boy now!

ConeHead

It was about three weeks ago that our beloved cat Macchi became a cone head. Somehow, it seems she managed to get her tail caught in the door at the top of the stairs as it shut and the tip was severed. *OUCH!*

I could easily be the guilty party. Once again I had let clean clothes pile up in the laundry room. I was running up and down the stairs retrieving baskets full of laundry. Could I have closed the door behind me hard enough to slice off part of my kitty???

We never heard a sound out of her. I was putting clothes away when my beloved hubby came to me with a piece of fluff in his hand, stating he had a piece of Macchi's tail.

"Yeah right" I laughed.

"No, I'm serious. Look!" He retorted.

Upon closer examination I could see the beautiful white and orange striped tip of my feline's tail with just a bit of bone beneath it.

I. WAS. HORRIFIED.

Immediately the search for the injured animal began. She was discovered huddled in the basement beneath a workbench, bleeding slightly from the tip of her tail, but still sweet as could be.

Though I feared animal cruelty charges may be filed against me, an emergency Sunday call to the vet was mandatory. His instructions were to bandage the tail to prevent blood splatter from spreading throughout the house and to bring her in first thing in the morning. Amputation may be necessary.

**WHAT DID HE SAY? AMPUTATION???!!!**

There was no bandaging that cat. No way - no how. She was one mad kitty when it came to her tail - and who would blame her?! So she was confined to the basement until morning.

Upon arrival at the vet they looked her over and said

"We can rebuild her. She'll be better, stronger, faster..."

No, I'm kidding - that picture is just for fun.

The vet thought it best to take just a bit of her tail off due to a vertebrae being exposed. Three weeks later (and a lot of hissing and growling not typical of this laid back cat) she's good as new. Well, with a slightly shorter tail, that is.

We love you Macchi!

Horrifying Noises

Logan was sick a couple days back. He wound up in bed with us one night - which is highly unusual. The next morning he told me his story of horror...

"I was laying there awake and I heard an awful noise. It was scary. I pulled the covers up over my head and it kept getting louder. Then I realized it was just Mark snoring."

Soda Pop Shrinkage

Matthew last night talking to his daddy right before lights out...

"If I drink lots of pop and shrink back to 4 (years old), could we take a nap together again?"

Awwwww....
